7/2/2008- Ada Splits Pair of League Games
Ada squeeked out a 3-1 win over Crookston on Wednesday night in Ada. Mike Gullingsrud, Keith Hanson and Kenneth Hayden each had RBI hits; Gullingsrud, Hanson and Eric Hoffman had two hits apiece. David Spies got the win on the mound, scattering five hits, striking out three batters and walking only one. Eric Hoffman picked up the save as the A's league record moved to 5-3.
The previous night was not as kind to the A's in their visit to East Grand Forks. The Eastsiders broke open a 1-1 game with on onslaught in the later innings to take an 11-1 win in eight innings. Anthony Brenner provided the only offensive highlite for the A's, with a towering homerun to center.
6/25/2008 Ada Wins Pair of Midweek Games
Andy Wagner drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the tenth inning to vault the A's to a 9-8 victory over league foe East Grand Forks on Tuesday night in Ada. The lead changed hands several times throughout the game, but neither team could manage to cross the plate in the latter innings until the tenth frame. Pacing the Ada offense was Chris Ellingson with a three-for-five performance and Keith Hanson with two hits and two RBI's. Eric Hoffman picked up the win in relief of Aaron Cook. The A's league record is 4-2.
On Wednesday, Ada made the trek up to Bagley to face the Thundercats in a non-league games. Ada came out firing with a 19-0 lead after three innings, and cruised to a 19-7 victory in a game shortened by the ten-run rule. Several A's had multiple hit efforts, led by Eric Hoffman's five-for-six performance; Aaron Cook hit his third homerun of the year. Mark Nelson picked up the win on the mound.
6/22/2008- A's Split with Royals
The homestanding A's split a pair of conference games with Roseau, losing the first game 2-1 and coasting to a 10-0 win in the second game. Kenneth Hayden had an outstanding pitching performance in the first game, allowing only six hits while striking out nine batters. However, Ada managed only five hits and couldn't come through with a big hit in the later innings with runners in scoring position. Aaron Cook's solo homerun represented the only Ada run.
Dave Spies tossed a one-hit shutout in Game 2. Andy Wager laced a single to right field that scored Mark Nelson, who had led off with a single, to end the game in the bottom of the fifth due to the ten-run rule. Ada scattered ten hits, led by multiple hit performances by Anthony Brenner, Jameson Benson and Adam Lee. Brenner had three RBI's, including a two-run shot to right field.
6/20/2008- Walkoff Homerun Vaults Ada over Moorhead Miners
Anthony Brenner led of the bottom of the ninth with a towering homerun to centerfield that propelled the homestanding A's to a 3-2 victory over the Miners. The game was a pitchers duel, with only ten hits total between the two squads and taking less than two hours. The A's took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on the strength of two walks and some fielders choices. Moorhead took a 2-1 lead in the mid-innings. Adam Lee smacked a single in the seventh that tied the game at two apiece. Josh Remer pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits.
6/18/2008- Ada Tops League Foe Crookston
The host A's broke open a close 2-0 game with five runs in each of the 5th and 6th innings and cruised to a 12-2 seven inning win over the rival Crookston Reds. The fifth inning rally was keyed by a bases loaded double by Adam Schumacher that hit the left field foul line and scored three runs. The offense was paced by Jameson Benson, who had three hits. Kenneth Hayden also chipped in two hits and an RBI. The A's offense was well-balanced as every starter collected a hit in the 12-hit onslaught. Adam Schumacher went the distance on the mound for the win.
6/17/2008- Athletics Down Bagley
Ada hosted Bagley in a non-leage game and came away victorious 7-3. Aaron Cook pitched seven solid innings and struck out 12 batters, while knocking out three hits and three RBI's to pace the offense. Eric Hoffman added two hits, including a two RBI single in the sixth inning. Chris Ellingson also added two hits.
6/15/2008 Bemidji Tournament
Ada squeezed in three games amongst rainshowers in the annual Rosco Tournament in Bemidji. The squad finished 1-2 in the tournament, losing close contests to Wadena/ Deer Creek and Soderville, before besting East Bethel on Sunday. Adam Schumacher, Josh Remer and Kenneth Hayden each pitched well in complete game performances.
6/10/2008- A's Winning Streak Ends
The A's five game winning streak came to a halt in East Grand Forks against the Heaters. Ada managed only five hits in the game, and didn't seriously threaten to cross the plate until the 9th inning. Dave Spies pitched a complete game for the A's.
6/4/2008- Ada and Crookston Open Conference Play
In a game originally scheduled for Ada, but moved to Crookston due to wet field conditions, the A's held off the Reds 9-7. It was a marathon 3+ hour affair, with numerous bases on balls and defensive miscues. Ada jumped to a 2-0 first inning lead, only to see the Reds tie it in the bottom half, and extend the lead to 5-3 entering the sixth inning. In the sixth, Ada took advantage of some Crookston miscues and timely hits to bolt to a 9-5 lead. Crookston plated two runs in the bottom half to make it 9-7, and that was the end of the scoring. The A's had 9 hits, but Chris Ellingson had the only multiple hit effort with two. Ada took advantage of nine walks, a hit batter and five Crookston errors. Aaron Cook picked up the win with Adam Schumacher eraning the save.
5/30/2008- Athletics Take Sweep
The A's swept a doubleheader from the visiting Moorhead Expos on Saturday. Ada took Game 1 by a score of 7-3. David Spies was solid on the mound in a complete game effort. Anthony Brennen had three of the team's nine hits, while Adam Lee, Spies and Kyle Nelson each had multiple hit games. Ada dodged a bullet in the sixth inning, when Moorhead loaded the bases with no outs. The Expos followed with a popout, then Aaron Cook caught a potential sac fly in center field and gunned the Expos runner trying to score from third, to end the rally.
Josh Remer pitched six inning of three-hit ball in the second game as the A's won in a rout, 12-3. The A's pounded out ten hits. The offense was paced by Jameson Benson with three hits and 6 RBI's, including a towering three-run homerun. Aaron Cook chipped in with two hits and 2 RBI's, while Kenneth Hayden and Anthony Brennen also had multiple hit efforts.
5/28/2008- A's Stage Late Rally for Win
The A's staged an eighth inning rally to plate five runs and took a 6-4 win over the visiting Bemidji Blue Ox. Bemidji jumped off to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Ada couldn't muster much offense until a solo homerun by Aaron Cook in the sixth inning. In the eighth inning, Ada took advantage of some key free passes by Bemidji pitchers and a two-run single off the bat of Taylor Sannes tied the game at four. Subsequent walks with the bases loaded by the visiting hurlers led to the margin of victory for Ada. Adam Schumacher pitched six solid innings on the mound, while Josh Riemer picked up the win in relief. The A's had seven hits on the night, led by Mike Gullingsrud's two safeties.
5/16/2008- Ada Opens Season With Big Win
The homestanding A's pounded out 13 hits and scored in each of the first five innings while cruising to a 14-0 victory over the visiting Moorhead Miners in a 7-inning game shortened by the 10-run rule. A's rookie pitcher David Spies didn't allow a hit until the 6th inning; Moorhead finished the game with two safeties. The Ada hit parade was led by Jameson Benson going 4 for 4 with 3 RBI's and two doubles; Kenneth Hayden chipped in with a 2 for 3 performance, including two hits that plated two runs apiece. Rounding out the assault were Anthony Brenner with a 2 for 3 performance and three runs scored, while Taylor Sannes was also 2 for 3.
5/18/2008- Doubleheader split with Moorhead Expos
The host A's salvaged a split with a comeback 8-7 win over the Expos in a see-saw affair Sunday afternoon at Tony Sipe Field. Ada spotted Moorhead a 3-0 lead early on, but came back in the fifth inning to take the lead on a pinch hit two run double by Mike Gullingsrud. Moorhead answered in the top of the sixth to reclaim the lead. The A's rallied in the bottom half with a leadoff double by Adam Lee. A base hit scored Lee and Jabby Bakhit, who had walked, for the margin of victory. Aaron Cook picked up the win in relief. Some misplays in the field led to four runs for the visiting Expos in the first game, as they took a 7-3 decision. Aaron Cook was hot at the plate for the A's, with two hits in each of the games.
